Festival against racism and xenophobia in St Petersburg

From 19th to 29th of March there will be a festival against racism and xenophobia in St Petersburg hosted by an informal coalition of public organisations of St. Petersburg. During one and a half weeks about a dozen of various activities will take place in the city: discussions, flash mobs, concerts and film screenings against manifestations of nationalism, intolererance and homophobia. The time of the festival was chosen so to coincide with the European Week of action against racism. All activities are open and free for everyone! History: The UN General Assembly have proclaimed the 21st of March to be the International Day against all forms of racial discrimination. The proclamation was done in memory of 21st of March 1960 when 70 people demonstrating against apartheid were killed in Sharpeville (South Africa). During the annual European Week of Action against racism, thousands of people participate in various promotions and actively support the idea of tolerance, equality of rights and diversity in Europe. 2010 is no exception, and hundreds of different events (from youth festivals and football matches to cleaning of walls with racist slogans) will be held throughout Europe. Last year, the coalition successfully conducted a week of activities in March against xenophobia and also participated in organising the event “The March Against Hatred" in November. The coalition of organisers are open and willing to cooperate with any organisations who stand for the principles of kindness, decency and respect for different cultures and religions. Everyone are welcome to participate during the week!
